Trinity College Dublin’s Old Library, home to the iconic Book of Kells and attracting over a million visitors annually, required a temporary exhibition during redevelopment. To maintain an exceptional visitor experience, Absolute Acoustics transformed the exhibition’s soundscape using sustainable, reusable acoustic solutions.

The Challenge: Managing Noise in a Temporary Exhibition

The temporary exhibition space in New Square faced significant sound bleed between areas, disrupting the immersive visitor experience. The project required effective sound isolation and absorption while ensuring exhibition operations were not interrupted. Additionally, all solutions had to be sustainable and reusable to align with Trinity College’s environmental commitments.

Our Approach: A Custom Acoustic Solution

In collaboration with iAcoustics, we engineered a bespoke solution tailored to the unique needs of the temporary space.

• Suspended Ceiling Encasement – We installed Tabs Studio 50 acoustic blankets on a Unistrut grid to achieve optimal sound isolation.
• Foam Wall Panelling – Strategically placed to absorb first-order sound reflections and minimise reverberation.
• Zero Disruption – All work was carried out exclusively at night, ensuring the exhibition remained fully operational.
• Sustainability First – The fully de-mountable and reusable materials aligned with Trinity College’s sustainability goals, allowing for future applications.
